Peer Leadership Institute: Language Replacement for Stigma Reduction
September 16th and 17th 2015
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center
At our 2nd Annual Peer Leadership Institute, we will focus on Stigma Reduction through Language Replacement, as well as Working with Unique Populations.
- Deficit based language creates stigma! Why are we still calling persons with the disease of addiction, ‘drug addicts?’ It is time to match our language to our scientific knowledge!
- We are looking for Vermonters to pilot a national language replacement model. Come be a part of the change!
We will also focus on additional needs that the following communities may require to have successful and sustainable recovery; veterans, LGBTQIA community, individuals with developmental disabilities, youth, and individuals struggling with opiate addiction. We will highlight information, education, research and specific tools and techniques that these communities have reported useful and helpful. We will also hear from guest speakers from these populations.
This is a FREE training including lunch and breakfast snacks.
