Thank you for joining us at the 2nd Annual Peer Leadership Institute!

Held on:
September 16th and 17th 2015
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center

At our 2nd Annual Peer Leadership Institute, we focused on Stigma Reduction through Language Replacement, as well as Working with Unique Populations.

  • Deficit based language creates stigma! Why are we still calling persons with the disease of addiction, ‘drug addicts?’ It is time to match our language to our scientific knowledge!
  • Vermonters piloted a national language replacement model.

We also focused on additional needs that the following communities may require to have successful and sustainable recovery; veterans, LGBTQIA community, individuals with developmental disabilities, youth, and individuals struggling with opiate addiction.  We highlighted information, education, research and specific tools and techniques that these communities have reported useful and helpful.  We also heard from guest speakers from these populations.
